I went into work for 4 1/2 hours today, to take some pressure off me this week. I want to take Friday off because my kids are off school - and I don't feel like working 10 hour days M-Th.
It was -so- nice being there mostly alone. No stupid poli-drama. I should work Sunday more often, I think. I didn't even have to wear my headset the entire time to keep people from talking to me. Don't get me wrong; I enjoy a good discussion. However, there is a huge difference between a "discussion" and a person who just wants validation for their political p.o.v. and cuts you down when you don't share the same one. Not playing those games. Either I'm too mature now or I just don't have time for stupid drama. Or both.
I just cannot comprehend the hatred. How can it be that our country has come so far in so many ways, yet we seem to be SINKING in hatred? It's unreal. And in some cases, as we've seen, it's encouraged. Shovel more coal in that fire. And please spare me the (fake) surprise when you have a crowd that is just spewing hate.
I'm not a deeply religious person, like some of the old women I work with. I'm not a fanatical religious nut, like some of the women I work with. I don't 'pray' in the most normal sense of the word. I have my conversations, and lately, I have my questions. How can people act the way they do? What makes them think that their behavior is alright? Where does this hate come from? What happened to loving your fellow man and letting go of hatred? Live and let live? Don't they teach tolerance -anywhere- anymore?
Lately, I have found myself asking that I show more respect than some do. To help me be a decent human being, to be kind and sensitive to -everyone- and not just those who see my side of things (even though, amusingly, very few KNOW what "my side of things" is, since I don't put myself out on the table. I believe what I believe. It's not open for argument. Full stop.) To help me to not be like some who just seem to want to argue for the sake of arguing, to get that adrenalin rush, to get that pumped up sensation that they are right, no matter what.
It basically boils down to 'please, if I am ever acting like a hateful person, smack me (figuratively). thank you.'
I would really love to listen to the regular suspects vent on and vent on and then say, "So. Tell me. What have -you- done in the last seven days to help your fellow man, since you are so pissed off at the way the world is going? What have you done to help the homeless, help the pregnancy crisis, help the hungry, help the pet overcrowding situation, help the local shelters? What have you done to help anyone lately? Have you donated blood? Have you donated time? Have you donated money? Have you done -anything- at all besides rant on about how fucked we are for the next four years, and how the world is going to end?"
However, my luck?
I would be the one fired. Hahaha.
Natalie: I just cannot hardly stand it.
Natalie: It makes my heart hurt, you know? Seeing so much hate.
Tony: yes
Natalie: Seeing so many adults just attempting to get the last word. What are they waiting for? A medal proclaiming them the one true correct person?
Natalie: I mean, really.
Tony: I agree you put it well ..it makes my heart ache ... yes exactly
Natalie: It does. :-(
